Managing the pitfalls of M&As
Kurt Verweire
After years of relative quiet, companies increasingly consider mergers and acquisitions (M&As) as a means to fuel corporate growth. Global M&A activity in 2006 surpassed the peak level reached in 2000.1 This fact is somewhat surprising as it is generally known that the success rate of M&As is, at best, mediocre. Less than half of the deals create shareholdervalue and fail to deliver the synergies that were promised.
